Junior World Gliding Championships 2022

The majority of gliders are currently back on the ground, with a few of them still racing to the finish line. Today was not easy. The weather did not spare anyone, which significantly shuffled the total results of the competition and the overall leaders in both club and standard class have fallen from their podium positions. As predicted in the morning, the day started with about 4 octas of very thin cumulus clouds that quickly began to dissipate and completely disappear later in the afternoon due to the high clouds arriving. The winner in club class today is Jelmer Vis from the Netherlands and in standard class, the winner today is Simon Briel from Germany who has now moved to the overall first position. In club class, the UK team is now in the overall lead thanks to a very consistent performance from Finn Sleigh and Toby Freeland. We have an engaging race ahead of us because the pilots are true professionals and all of them fight very hard for the title of junior world champion.

Větroně už jsou zpátky na zemi z dnešní tratě, která kvůli nelehkému počasí potrápila nejednoho z nich a výrazně zamíchala s celkovým pořadím. Den začal se čtyřmi osminami kumulů, které byly ale pod inverzní vrstvou jen velmi tenké a rychle se rozpadaly a teď odpoledne se už nasunula vysoká oblačnost ze západu. Dnešním vítězem v klubové třídě byl Jelmer Vis z Nizozemska a ve standartní třídě Simon Briel ze Spolkové republiky Německo, který se v celkovém pořadím posunul na prvnbí místo. V klubové třídě se do celkového prvenství posunul národní tým Spojeného království, díky velmi konzistetnímu výkonu Finna Sleighe a Tobyho Freelanda. Zbývá nám ještě pět soutěžních dní a díky skvělým výkonům pilotů nemáme pochybnost o tom, že náš čeká velmi zajímavý a napínavý konec soutěže.

After two free days, in which pilots could rest and regain some energy for the next week of the competition, the weather will be good enough today for another competition task. A clear blue sky with occasional cumulus clouds is expected today. The weather will not stay flyable very long, therefore the pilots will have to fly fast, but that should be their goal every day. Some of them might use skills they gained yesterday when they had the opportunity to fly the Czech classic L-13 Blaník.

Po dvou volných dnech to naštěstí vypadá, že piloti dnes znovu poletí. Aspoň měli dostatek času načerpat sílu na další soutěžní týden. To pomůže bezpečnému průběhu závodu, protože unavený pilot udělá spíš chybu než ten odpočinutý. Někteří závodníci už dva dny volna nemohli vydržet a včera využili příležitost vyzkoušet si let na tradičním českém Blaníku. Dnes očekáváme čistou s velmi ojedinělými kumuly. Dobré plachtařské počasí dnes nevydrží dlouho, takže by se piloti měli snažit letět co nejrychleji, ale to by se stejně měli snažit vždycky.

After a well-needed and well-deserved rest day, the weather seems to be playing games with us and due to yesterday’s heavy rainfall and more possible showers today, it is still unclear if pilots will fly today. The airfield is soaking wet but there is still some hope, that the aeroplanes could launch later today. Fingers crossed!

Po zaslouženém dni volna přišly silné přeháňky, které lehce zkomplikovaly dnešní soutěžní den. Zatím se neví, zda piloti budou moct odletět, protože je možné, že bude i nadále pršet. Naděje ale umírá poslední, takže stále ještě můžeme držet palce a doufat, že se i dnes povede odstartovat.

Yesterday’s successful competition day was ended by a Czech evening organized by Aeroclub Tabor. Just after 7 pm, the competitors could admire the skills of the former Red Bull Air Race pilot Martin Šonka during his airshow and low passes. The evening continued with a buffet dinner and a musical performance by Tábor Superstar Band.
Today will be an official rest day so competitors can use the tropical temperature to relax somewhere by the water and regenerate before further competition flying. The forecast for Saturday is mixed, but we expect good gliding weather again from Sunday.

Včerejší úspěšný letový den jsme zakončili českým večerem pořádným Aeroklubem Tábor. Těsně po sedmé hodině nám Martin Šonka předvedl své akrobatické umění doplněné o kouřové efekty a pár pěkných průletů. Následně se začaly servírovat masité i zeleninové pochoutky a celý večer byl proložen živým vystoupením hudební skupiny Tábor Superstar Band a jejich českými a zahraničními hity. 
Dnes nás čeká oficiální odpočinkový den. Počasí s tropickými teplotami umožní závodníkům relaxovat někde u vody a nabírat tak síly do dalších soutěžních dní. Předpověď na sobotu zatím dává jen menší naději na letění, nicméně od neděle plachtařské předpověď i slibují opět pěkné počasí pro závodění.

All of the pilots are currently in the air, trying to win today’s task. The clear blue sky is unforgiving and pilots need a lot of experience, technical knowledge and courage to succeed. Thermals will reach very high altitudes, which promises another interesting race between those who can take advantage of it. The tasks are shorter than previous days but no less challenging. The weather will test all of the abilities, which the junior world champions should possess.

Všichni piloti jsou momentálně ve vzduchu a snaží se být rychlejší než jejich soupeři. Čisté modré nebe je nekompromisní a vyžaduje dostatek zkušeností, znalostí a kuráže, pokud chtějí závodníci uspět. Dostupy jsou hodně vysoko, což piloti mohou využít ke svému prospěchu. Tratě jsou dnes naplánované kratší, ale o nic méně náročné než v předešlých dnech. Počasí i nadále testuje všechny schopnosti, které by měl mistr světa junior mít.

We are happy to have another exciting flying day here in Tabor ahead of us today. However, today will be much different than the previous days. We expect a clear blue sky, no cumulus clouds and very hot weather. Hopefully, the pilots will have some spare energy after the challenging and exhausting week, because there will be a Czech evening today. We look forward to show our guests from all around the world some shreds of the Czech culture.

Máme radost, že i dnes máme před námi další letový soutěžní den. Na rozdíl od minulých dní dnes očekáváme čistě modrou oblohu bez jediného kumulu a velmi vysokou teplotu. Doufáme, že pilotům po velmi náročném týdnu zbyde dostatek energie na český večer, který se dnes bude konat. Těšíme se, že hostům z celého světa ukážeme kousky české kultury.

We had another very successful day here in Tábor and both classes finally have 1000 points tasks. The podium positions were more diverse today. In club class, the winner was Alin Simion from Romania with an average speed of 111.26 kph over a 448 km long task. Áron Érseki from Hungary was the winner in the standard class with a 120 kph speed over a 510 km long task. In the next two days, we expect very hot tropical days with temperatures soaring past 30°C and correspondingly blue thermals.

Dnes jsme v Táboře měli další velmi úspěšný den a v obouch soutěžních třídách získali vítězní piloti maximalní počet 1000 bodů. Vítěz v klubové třídě byl Alin Simion z Rumunska, který letěl průměrnou 111.26 km/h na trati dlouhé 448 km. Vítězem ve standartní třídě byl Áron Érseki z Maďarska, který dosáhl rychlosti téměř 120 km/h na letu dlouhém přes 510 km. V příštích dvou dnech nás čekají tropické teploty a doufáme, že tomu budou odpovídat i dostupy, i když to bude bez kumulů.

Another day, another gliding day! We have a boiling hot day ahead of us, which might not be the most comfortable for us who stay on the ground, but the pilots can definitely appreciate it. Due to the high temperatures, the clouds will be very high and thermals will be strong. Today pilots can look forward to long tasks which are planned to follow the best available weather conditions. Club class pilots will be flying almost 450 km and standard class pilots over 500 km.

Dnes nás čeká velmi horký den, což nemusí být nejpříjemnější pro nás na zemi, ale piloti to jistě ocení. Díky vysokým teplotám budou základny oblačnosti hodně vysoko a bude pod nimi silné stoupání. Piloty čeká dlouhá trať, v klubové třídě skoro 450 km a ve strandartní přes 500 km.

The weather in Tábor today positively surprised us again today. The expected dissipation of clouds did not occur and very nice cumulus streets formed so we had another amazing flying day with very high speeds. Germany is taking the crown today from France, with all the podium positions going to them. The winners Toni Kittler and Nils Fecker completed the 318 km long task with a speed of over 120 kph. In standard class, the German talent continued to show, with the winner Simon Briel finishing with a speed of almost 119 kph. The weather for tomorrow is looking good again and we will aim for tasks over 500 km for standard class.

Počasí v Táboře nás dnes opět mile překvapilo. Očekáváné rozpady a vysoká vlhkost naštětstí počasí moc neovlivnily a díky krásným řadám dosahovali piloti opět velmi vysokých rychlostí. Korunu od Francie si dnes převzalo Německo. V klubové třídě obsadili naši západní sousedé všechny tři pódiová místa a vítězové Toni Kittler a Nils Fecker letěli rychlostí přes 120 km/h na trati dlouhé 318 km. Ve standartní třídě vyhrál další německý pilot, Simon Briel, který letěl rychlostí 119 km/h. Počasí na zítra vypadá opět velmi slibně a ve standartní třídě bychom se pokusili o “pětistovku”.
