The competition is over / Soutěž je u konce

After years of preparation, more than three weeks of intensive work and 11 flying competition days it is over now. The results are final, awards have been given out and the competition has been declared closed. The airfield that has been full of gliders, tents and caravans just a few hours ago is empty now. The briefing hangar, competition office and the restaurant that have been busy with people for the last three weeks are now closed and empty. But while there is little that remains in Tábor that would remind us that the competition ever took place, the memories and relationships we formed during our time together will remain forever.

We had an extremely enjoyable competition thanks to a number of important aspects. The most crucial part has been all the people that formed the unforgettable atmosphere of the competition. A big thanks need to go to the enthusiasm of all the pilots, team captains, crew members, staff and audience. Huge thanks also need to go to the sponsors of the competition who made it possible to be organised in the first place. Thanks to their generosity we were able to provide a world-class experience for the pilots and motivate their performances with valuable prizes. An important thank you also needs to go to the army and Air Navigation Services of the Czech Republic for coordinating their airspace usage and granting our competitors maximum freedom in the air. And lastly a thank you needs to go to all the people from the Tábor region who might have not been directly involved in the championships but had to bear with increased noise, and traffic and still provide all of us with the basic services we all need to function.

But now, let’s focus our attention on the pilots who through their great skill and determination have shown amazing performances and a very tight race for the podium positions up till the very last day. And while all would like to win, there can only be one junior world champion in each class.

In the club class, the new reigning champion is Finn Sleigh from the United Kingdom. Coming in a close second position is his UK team partner Toby Freeland. And the bronze medal was conquered by Nils Fecker from Germany.

In the standard class, the new junior world champion is Simon Briel from Germany. And the rest of the podium positions were conquered by the representant of the hosting country Czech Republic, Lukáš Kříž and Jaromír Macoun.

And in the team cup ranking the best countries were, in order, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Congratulations to all who have won and thanks to everybody for the amazing experience. See you all soon again in Tábor.

Nejdůležitější jsou vždycky lidé a hlavně díky nadšení všech pilotů, kapitánů týmů, pomocníků, pořadatelů a diváků proběhlo mistrovství s nezapomenutelnou atmosférou.

From the air/Ze vzduchu

One last time during this competition, the pilots took off from the planes of the Tabor airfield today. After the two weeks full of excellent weather and exceptional performance, the competitors are currently attempting to achieve the highest average speed in today’s AAT tasks. Like everyone else, even the sky is mourning and crying today, causing some showers through out the day. Luckily, the local weather wanted to be remembered as extraordinary and except the showers, it remained very favorable. After the pilots will arrive from their final flight, pack their gliders and maybe have some rest, they can enjoy the farewell party, which will take place today at 19:30. It is the best way to celebrate the amazing time we all have spent here at the beautiful Tabor airport.

Competition Day 11 / Jedenáctý soutěžní den

The weather was very generous once again, so the pilots were able to fly long distances at very high speeds in today’s AAT task. Today’s results are very uniform since all of the three top positions in both classes are occupied by competitors from the same countries. The Netherlands reigned in the club class, while Germans took over the standard class. The fastest Dutch was the Simon van den Eijkel, who reached 114 kph and received 1000 points for his unstoppable flight. The winner in the standard class is Simon Briel, who solidified his position in first place in the total results. He managed to fly 133 kph today, earning him another 1000 points. Tomorrow is the last chance for the pilots to win more points and move upward in the total ranking, therefore we can look forward to one last arresting competition day.

Morning News Day 11 / Ranní zprávy z jedenáctého dne

Another day in the gliding paradise. The amazing results, weather and the smooth course of the competition so far were rightfully celebrated yesterday at the international evening. Huge thanks belong to everyone, who wholeheartedly shared their culture and created an amazing atmosphere at the party. Despite everyone really enjoying the evening, it needed to be stopped a bit earlier, because today we have another day with ideal gliding weather very similar to yesterday. The last few days are the most crucial for the competition and there is no time to rest. Hopefully, pilots and their crews managed to get some sleep in the night and they will be flying like the professionals they are once again. Today both classes have AAT tasks for 3 hours to the east of Tábor.

Skvělé výsledky, počasí i hladký průběh soutěže byly včera řádně oslaveny na vydařeném mezinárodním večeru. Velké díky patří všem, kteří se podělili o svojí kulturu a všem, kdo pomohli vytvořit více něž příjemnou atmosféru na večírku. Ačkoli všichni vypadali, jakože si večírek užívají na maximum, museli jsme skončit dřív, protože dnes nás čeká další velmi příznivé počasí a další náročný soutěžní den.

Competition Day 10 / Desátý soutěžní den

The 10th day of the competition ended with all of the pilots safely on the ground, back at the airport or on their way and at very high speeds thanks to the amazing weather and the well-planned tasks. Once again, Finn Sleigh, who managed to fly at an incredible average speed of 124 kph, stole first place in the club class. This talented young pilot from the United Kingdom secured his first position in the total results by 344 points before the third place. The winner of the standard class is Jacob Bøgelund Lassen from Denmark who flew 118 kph. Congratulations to both winners who both won 1000 points today and to the rest of the pilots as well, who were very successful on another challenging and exhausting day. The best way to celebrate today is the international evening, which will start at 19:30. Tomorrow there is another competition day and the weather forecast looks very promising again, so hopefully the pilots will stay fresh and well-rested even after the great party.

Morning News Day 10 / Ranní zprávy z desátého dne

After a difficult yesterday, we are back on track and preparing for another competition day. The weather will be similar to yesterday with an increased quantity of cirrus clouds. The plan is to fly 3 hours-long AAT today, which is expected to allow very high speeds in such good weather and also a very high level of safety as both classes are flying to two very different areas. The club class will be visiting our southern neighbours in Austria whereas the standard class will be flying all the way to our friends in Germany. We look forward to the international evening, which will happen this evening.

A dneska večer nás čeká mezinárodní večírek.

Day 9 Cancelled / Devátý soutěžní den

Everybody is safe on the ground, but due to a midair accident today the competition day was cancelled for both classes. Both pilots involved reached the ground safely but the recovery teams are still working to get both gliders back. Until then we have no more information to share. The international evening has been moved to tomorrow.

Morning News Day 9 / Zprávy z devátého dne

As expected, the weather delighted us this morning, allowing us to plan tasks longer than 500 km. The next few days will be very challenging for the pilots as the competition culminates. It is predicted, that the weather will only be improving over the week, therefore we can look forward to more fascinating days. Continuous flying is one of the most exhausting parts of the competition requiring an abnormal focus and brain agility. To enrich the fun, we will have an international evening today from 19:30.

Předpověd počasí na zbylé letové dny vypadá výborně a my očekáváme velmi napínavý konec soutěže. Dnes večer nás ještě čeká mezinárodní večer, na kterém se bude moct každý tým pochlubit svými národními pochoutkami.

Competition Day 8 / Soutěžní den 8

Another day and another successful competition. Even though the weather forecast was not the best the pilots managed to fly almost 110 kph in club class. Today, the UK team has cemented their first position in club class with Finn Sleigh taking the first place and Toby Freeland coming in second. In the standard class, another victory went to Germany and today’s winner Jan Knischewski managed to fly over 116 kph. The weather for tomorrow is looking good and we expect to have another 1000-point racing day.

Další den a další úspěšná disciplína.

Morning News Day 8 / Denní zprávy z osmého dne

Today we woke up to a cold morning which will turn into a pleasant competition day. The direction of the tasks will today lead the pilots to the west according to the weather forecast. Few cumulus clouds can be expected. Pilots will fly over 300 km, which is appropriate training for the longer tasks, which are planned for tomorrow. The weather will probably stay suitable for the competition the whole week, so stay tuned for challenging but exciting races.
